{"id":14694,"date":"2019-11-21T16:36:28","date_gmt":"2019-11-21T21:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nasadad.org\/?p=14694"},"modified":"2019-11-21T16:38:17","modified_gmt":"2019-11-21T21:38:17","slug":"14694","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nasadad.org\/2019\/11\/14694\/","title":{"rendered":"North Carolina seeking Director of the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>North Carolina is looking for <strong>an ambitious and accomplished executive <\/strong>to develop and drive state-wide public policy as the <strong>Director of the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Director of the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disability, and Substance Abuse Services is a senior leader at DHHS.\u00a0 She or he reports to the Deputy Secretary for Behavioral Health &amp; IDD and oversees a staff of 160 and annual budget of $500 million. The director sets state-wide public policy and funds programs across the state in concert with the Division\u2019s aspirational mission:\u00a0 <em>through the lens of behavioral health and supporting those with disabilities, we aim to lead with our ideas to identify gaps, invest in promising interventions, and efficiently scale a system that promotes health and wellness for all North Carolinians across all payers, providers, and points of care.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We are looking for a leader who can help build on the good work currently taking place and recent accomplishments, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Further advancing the Department\u2019s priority of turning the tide of the opioid epidemic by making progress on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdhhs.gov\/about\/department-initiatives\/opioid-epidemic\/north-carolinas-opioid-action-plan\">Opioid Action Plan 2.0<\/a>, which is producing results such as a <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.nc.gov\/news\/nc-opioid-overdose-deaths-drop-first-time-5-years-0\">reduction<\/a> in opioid overdose deaths for the first time in five years;<\/li>\n<li>Leveraging past work and <a href=\"https:\/\/files.nc.gov\/ncdhhs\/documents\/files\/SL%202016-94%2C%20Sect.%2012F.10%20and%20SL%202017-57%20Sect.%2011F.6%20Strategic%20Plan%20for%20Improvement%20of%20Behavioral%20Health%20Services%20.pdf?4SjY_N4YP3KadXXEuEOhGa0xQzXdBJwd\">strategic directions for behavioral health services<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Contributing to the goal of substantial compliance for the Transitions to Community Living Initiative by supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdhhs.gov\/news\/press-releases\/nc-continues-work-assist-people-living-mental-illness-find-housing-services\">continued<\/a> development of more community-based supports to enable individuals\u2019 success in their community;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdhhs.gov\/news\/press-releases\/north-carolina-provides-crisis-counseling-over-200000-people-impacted-hurricane\">Meeting the behavioral health needs<\/a> of North Carolinians impacted by disasters such as Hurricanes; and<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdhhs.gov\/news\/press-releases\/dhhs-dps-create-treatment-pilot-inmates-opioid-use-disorder-transition-after\">Partnering with stakeholders to pilot<\/a> new programs to improve individuals\u2019 health and well-being.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Past experience for well-qualified candidates may include or relate to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>leading managers of managers, responsible for motivating diverse teams in complex organizations, driven by a relentless hunger for achieving goals;<\/li>\n<li>working in a public-policy role with a birds-eye view of government or complex health-care operations where you\u2019ve pulled all the levers of driving multi-faceted change:\u00a0 money, legislation, regulation, partnerships, and communications;<\/li>\n<li>being a senior portfolio manager or executive at a foundation responsible for identifying, piloting, and scaling promising interventions through multi-year funding strategies;<\/li>\n<li>building lasting and meaningful relationships with stakeholders and partners within all branches of government in the midst of complex incentives and difficult trade-offs;<\/li>\n<li>living a life with personal connection to our work, either as an individual with lived experience, a family member, or advocate &#8212;
